Some Ruffly Fun

First off I have to say I have the BEST blog friends ever! We're BBF's. Too bad that doesn't come in necklace charms. Well, that & I'd have to have enough pieces to share with all the ladies on the internet. Could be tricky.

Anyway, thank you for all of your truly wonderful, personal & meaningful comments this week. I read every single one and every single one means something to me. A lot actually so thanks. (:

So it's Friday and I say how about something a little more fluffy than life perspective deep thoughts with Samster Mommy? How about RUFFLES! Again, I know...

This one is modeled after a shirt I really wanted from J Crew but was NOT going to spend $40 on:
Two Tees from Nordstrom Rack (2 for $12)
Did some slicing & dicing...
And ruffled long strips, I had to sew two of the above strips together so the ruffles would be long enough (8 strips total to make 4 long ruffles)
And wah-lah! A new tee for mommy in less than 30 minutes...I heart sewing.

  1. SOOOOOOO CUTE! Why am I so afraid to try this stuff??? I have a dress that I bought after I had my daughter...You know...the dress that will hide the temporary pouch that makes you look like you are still about 4 months pregnant even though you just had the baby. I am tall and the dress was short so I wore it with leggings. Now, it seems a little wide on me and I really want to shorten it into a shirt. I was thinking about you last night when I was trying to figure out what you would do with it. :)

  2. That is gorgeous :)
Quick question, have you had any problems with them drawing up when you wash them?? I made a tank top using your first tutorial but I washed it once and all the ruffles look kinda funny now. I didn't dry it but just the washing machine caused them to look funny. Any advice?

    Have a great weekend :)

  3. These ideas are so great. LOVE the ruffles for everything. It doesn't come to my mind that often to all this cute girly stuff because I have a boy, and also I would have to spend money on a sewing machine. An investment, I know, but not at the moment. Keep em coming! One day I will try them. You mentioned in an earlier post that you were on bedrest, me too for 5 months of my pregnancy. Why were you?

  7. Aw, thanks guys! (:

    To answer a few questions...

I suggest washing on cold and drying on low heat. After drying you give a little life back to your shriveled ruffles by misting them with some water, steam from an iron or a product like down wrinkle release. Then just fluff 'em up and they'll dry much better. However whether your ruffled items are storebought or handmade they'll never look completely like they did before washing. Although I actually like them better not so perfect...

And as for the question about my bedrest, yeah, it totally sucked. I was on bedrest for 4 weeks due to pre-term labor and pre-ecclampsia which eventually caused me to have Sam via c-section (ugh, don't even get me started on that!) 3 weeks early. In hindsight I wish I would've taken my bedrest a little more seriously, I was really bad about if I needed something I would get up and get it myself because I felt bad about asking others to get it for me. Perhaps if I was stricter I could've let Samster cook another week or two...she was super tiny and had some digestive issues. But she's certainly quite caught up now! Something I'll do differently with the next one though if I find myself back in the same situation.

  8. This is a super cute idea, and thrifty for those of us who cannot and will not spend that $40+ for a t-shirt. I do have a (stupid) question though. When you sew on the ruffles, do you use an elastic thread or regular thread?
