Snow Day!

I love snowy days, I didn't see snow until Peter took me to upstate New York when I was 25 so I still get totally geeked out about it when it happens in my backyard. Sam and I didn't leave the house today because of the weather, actually that's a lie, technically I left momentarily. I ran out during naptime to get dinner at Whole Foods and to pop in the bookstore to pick up this memoir that looked good (Rockabye by Rebecca Wolf) but got a call from P right after I left and instead of saying anything he just put the phone up to a 'screaming bloody murder' Samantha. Apparently she woke up from her nap right after I left the house and was not too happy to find Daddy instead of me. I turned around and came back home sans book. Ah well. The rest of the day was quite nice however, Sam and I spent the morning in my craft room, her in her jumparoo and me at my sewing machine working on resolution #5. I started off making some bibs and burp cloths off of the tutorials on Homemade by Jill. (I've become slightly obsessed with this girl's blog, her crafts are awesome) I don't have pics of the burp cloths since they're in the washing machine "ragging" but here are the bibs. Slightly wonky upclose but pretty darn cute for a firstime sewing project if I say so myself! I just need to figure out why they end up tugging and coming out crooked in the last step, maybe I'm not pinning them taut enough?

Between the spit-up, drool and mealtimes this kid is going through AT LEAST 2-3 bibs a day so this is definitely a practical craft at the moment! Also I didn't have any terry on hand so I used some handtowels that have been sitting in the linen closet for goodness knows how long, the backs of the first two are terry and it actually turned out so cute that I made the third with terry on the front and plain white flannel on the back. I purposely used the part of the towel that has the 'line' across it, I kind of like that it literally looked like a towel, very homey feeling. For the heart cutouts i just used some leftover dark pink terry from the backing of the middle bib and sewed it on at the end. I have no idea how they'll hold up in the wash but fingers are crossed! I think Sam enjoyed craft time, we paused sewing for a little photoshoot...

  1. very cute bibs! I don't know if you have a walking foot for your sewing machine, but if you do, I'd recommend using it when you top stitch your bibs and burp cloths. It holds multiple layers of fabric in place really well because there are feed dogs on the foot, so the fabric is gripped on top and bottom. Anyway, it helps me! I used to have the same problem.

Thanks for linking to my blog. :)

  3. You are so talented and the bibs are super cute! I wish I had time to be so creative and make things for my little man. Thankfully my mom is an interior designer and she makes things for Kristian. I think that you should see the bibs and make some extra pocket change!
Take Care and have a safe trip
