Faux Flower Box

I must say, I'm giving myself a bit of a pat on the back for this one. Everytime I walk in the room it makes me so happy to see it, it's nice when a project turns out well! I was originally going to stuff the basket with big white hydrangea blooms but I couldn't find any that were realistic enough without being crazy expensive. I found these Ranunculus at JoAnn's for 40% off, that came to $2.50 each. I bought 7 stems although in hindsight could've gotten away with 6. If you choose a bigger bloom than you'll need even less. Just eyeball it & err on the side of more so it'll be nice & full. You don't want to see the foam blocks below.

Speaking of you'll also need some soft floral styrofoam for the bottom of your basket, it's usually green & pretty easily found at craft stores in the fake flower area. I found mine at wal-mart. Also in case you're wondering my basket is from Target, it's called a "CD basket", I think the long rectangle is a nice shape for a faux flower basket.

Start by arranging your foam in the bottom of the basket, then just stick your blooms in. It's as simple as that. Kind of, you'll probably also have to trim your flowers. I found that jewelry making clippers worked really well for cutting the metal stems. You could also use a pair of scissors that you don't mind dinging up.I started off spacing the flowers a bit sparsely & then once I could see how many I had leftover I could figure out how to go back & fill in the blank spaces evenly. Also I think when you place some higher than others it gives it a natural garden-ish feel...Done! Now you can't tell me that wasn't easy.

  4. So cute! I want to make this and I'm thrilled to bits you didn't buy anything at Hobby Lobby--too often I see cute projects on blogs and they bought the supplies at HL and we don't have that store.

  10. Woot! I just went to Joann and got the exact same ranunculus. I was so psyched that they had them because I am crazy about ranunclus this year and love the colors.I made a smaller version with 3 plants and a smaller rectangle basket. My 4 year old helped and is SO proud. It is JUST what I needed. Thanks!
