Dress Factory-Part 1

This past weekend the Samster Mommy Dress factory was crankin' them out double time...
(actually it was just 4 dresses but for me that's a big deal) I'll go ahead & show you some tidbits for how I did the 1st two now & then the next 2 later in the week.

First it was Samster's little friend's 3rd birthday party, I love how Ashley made her daughter a birthday dress with a number on the front that represented how old she was turning. I made Kiki one out of tshirt knits with a "3" on the front & then her name on the back, kind of like a sports jersey...For the freezer paper stencil I just printed out the font/letters I needed on regular printer paper, traced them onto freezer paper & cut them out with an exacto knife. Simple as that. The butterflies were done with freezer paper & a Martha Stewart punch, I really love them!Next is my favorite because Samster absolutely lights up every time she sees it. (not to mention it took all of 20 minutes to put together)I made it from a size 4T Dora shirt (Kmart), the bottom of an XL women's striped knit shirt & some red knit ribbing for the armbands.1st I cut off the sleeves of the Dora tee & the bottom 5" of the striped tee that was a little less than twice the width of the tshirt. I sewed the striped piece into a ruffle & stitched it to the bottom of the tee. For the armbands I cut out 2 pieces of ribbing that were 1" wide & 8" long. I folded each piece in half lengthwise, ironed them, then pinned them to the sleeve holes & stitched 'em on.The neckline is still a bit big so I think I'll replace it with some more red ribbing but in the meantime she doesn't care...it has her BFF Dora and that's all that matters in Samsterland.Hope you had a nice weekend, here we go again with a new week! Everyone ready?

  1. How cute! The Disney store outlet in Round Rock, Texas, other Disney Outlets prob have them too, has toddler size Disney t-shirts for $5, this will be great for the dress. I have been wanting to buy them but my daughter isn't in toddler sizes yet! Thanks!

  7. Did you actually get the Sienna dress pattern?? Or did you improvise on your own? You're so dang crafty that you probably did it yourself. I'm so impressed as usual. And although this is late on the comment, the breast feeding stories from the other day were amazing. People shouldn't feel guilty for what they can't physically or emotionally do, but if they are choosing not to bf and still feel guilty about it- well- thats their problem. Not yours. And in regards to craft blog vs boob blog.... its your blog. As always, your dedicated friends and followers here will support you in all your decisions! Sorry. Had to get that off my chest! We had our first er trip yesterday, and some responses I got from good friends about what was an unavoidable accident really hit home.... and after seeing your blog I remembered that I never threw my hat in the other day to support you! So there! Keep on working it ROCK STAR!

  10. I wish you sold those dresses as my daughter is having a Dora birthday party for her 2nd birthday. I may have to find someone with sewing talent. Wish I had it, you are very creative.
