Bad Timing Diego, very very bad timing.

So we're doing our usual bedtime routine, bathtime and then we all cuddle in bed...daddy works on his laptop, mommy blogs & Sam watches Dora & Diego. Tonight however Diego got the whole family's attention...P & I both couldn't believe it!Yup. It's what you think it is. In tonight's episode Diego gets chased by a pod of Killer Whales.

WOW.

It's too bad no one at the nick jr offices today thought, "hey, you know how tonight we're set to air the whale episode of "Go Diego Go", well, I'm thinking maybe since many children around the country are already traumatized by that whole Shamu mauling his trainer & drowning her thing...maybe we should put on the 'monkey backpack' episode instead. I'm just saying."

Sam's too young to get the whole Seaworld incident but I can't even imagine how much consoling parent's are having to do for their kids everytime they see the news. I grew up in Florida so I went to Seaworld at least once a year growing up, Shamu (which is what they call whichever whale is in that "Shamu" show) is like Mickey Mouse. He even walks around the park taking pictures with kids & giving whale hugs.

I can only imagine some poor unsuspecting parents having spent the day shielding their young kids from the news & then out of nowhere, on nick jr of all places, the kid sees their hero, Diego, trying to get away from a killer whale. Ironic doesn't even begin cover it. Perhaps "creepy" is a better word.

Did anyone else see this? Are any of your kids upset about the "incident"?

  1. Maybe they don't watch the news. Too bad. I'm sure the kids are freaked out.

  2. Yes, my husband being the sensitive guy that he is said, "Oh, I think we've seen this one, it the one where the whale grabs a hold of her pony tail and drags her under water.." Oh, I married such a gentleman.

  5. My son doesn't watch diego anymore but he saw it on the news before I could switch the channel. He was pretty horrified having just gone to Seaworld at Thanksgiving. Then in his sweet 7 year old voice he said "I guess they don't call em killer whales for nothing" I'm guessing his dream to train whales is over.

  6. aw man, yeah, bad call Nick Jr. That's such a scary thing, animals "attaking". I can never watch those shows/specials, just makes my stomach turn. I had the same thought as felicia's son. Wonder what Sea World will do with the show and whales now? hmm
