I found this dress on the clearance rack at Target & absolutley fell in love with the floral Hello Kitty print. Only problem is the dress is a 3T and Samster is barely a 2T. No worries though, the bottom was a perfect candidate for a skirt refashion. And oh so easy. Really, it's almost silly...
1st step, cut off bottom. Done.
Next iron the raw edge down & then stitch into place so it forms a waistband. Leave a small opening and thread elastic the size of Sam's waist through. Check.
That's it! No seriously, that's really all there is to it. Promise!Now all that's left to do is twirl away!
Oh, and push a rabbit in a stroller with a dishtowel on your head. Duh.

ReplyDeleteAs for the serger! YAY for us! Serger sisters, if you will ;) I felt like SUCH a complete dork...I mean such a complete INCOMPETENT dork when trying to thread the thing. And yes, it still scares me!
I'm slowly getting acquainted with it but we're still antsy around each other, you too?
As for the "serged finished edge down the middle" thingy...I too tried to figure that out. I lowered/deactivated (I have NO idea what word to use) the blade but when I tried to feed the fabric through it became a RATS nest of thread and I promptly broke a needle. THEN I had to figure out how to change a NEEDLE. Whew. Bout threw the whole thing out the window.

Forgot to say, I did use my serger on my last project, a lace-trimmed T-shirt.

Ohhh, I love that fabric too. My littlest one (2yrs) is a huge Hello Kitty fan, I must see if there are any of those dresses left at my Target! :) Love how you made it a skirt.
