Yep. For project # 7 in my "30 for $30" series I glittered my daughter's shoes. I was a little nervous at first but I just couldn't resist.
Here's the before, boring Stride Rite sneakers, bleh,
And the after!Fun! Have you seen all the super cute sparkly girl's shoes lately? They're so beautiful but Sam needs some extra arch support & I just don't think it's fair for her to be glitter-deprived because she has fat feet. I'm just saying.
Here's how I did it, first I covered the shoe openings with tape because I figured if any glitter got in there she'd be forever tracking pink glitter all over our house.
Next, I used a paintbrush to apply a thin coat of mod podge to an area I wanted to glitter. I started with just the flower detail but then decided to move full steam ahead and glittered all the pink leather on the shoe. I worked small areas and repeated with mod podge, glitter, shake off excess & continue. (I used tourmaline from the MS Essential glitter pack)After I covered it all I let it dry a bit and then went back and recovered any areas that looked sparse. I gave them a good 20 min to dry and then covered the entire glittered area with a clear drying sealant so the glitter wouldn't rub off. That's it!If only I could glitter mine. Sigh.
*For those of you who are new to the blog (hi!) I'm doing a series of 30 glitter projects to justify the $30 price tag on Martha's FABULOUS Essential Glitter Pack, you can read more about it here or look for any post with the label "30 for 30".
I think this is the best one yet! The other glitter activities are cute, but this one honestly looks the best...as in, that's how the shoes came. Not a "I did it myself" look. Good job!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this! Your craftiness never ceases to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteBest Glitter post so far! If only I had a little girl...

Oh, I am so excited!!! My daughter is only 5, but has outgrown the "toddler" sized shoes... which are all the cute ones! Now I can take the boring "girl" size shoes and cuten then up! Yay!!!!!! I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteWow those are TOO CUTE!! I think I may make some for my niece for her bday. She had to have twinkle toes!
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteI buy 90% of my kids' shoes second hand and sometimes there are cute shoes I pass up because the toes have bald spots from wear when the rest of the shoe looks brand new. Now I know what I can do to cover the bald spots! I will definately be trying this, thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh and for those of you who haven't use the Martha glitter yet she mentioned, you will never look at glitter the same again. There is a big difference between MS glitter and any old craft glitter!
Oh, my goodness! These are SO cute! Now I'm going to be on the lookout for something to glitter - especially since I have a brand-spankin'-new bottle of Mod Podge!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about how the glitter is holding up on all your projects, maybe you can give us an update in a future post? More specifically, does the glitter stay put or rub off? And does the clear sealer affect the glitter's sparkle at all?
I LOVE this! Come share your crafty creation at Thursday's Treasures!
