I don't know how it happened, perhaps there truly is something in the water, but all of my girlfriends have little girls. Instead of going to the store & buying 5 baby dolls I decided to make them all tutus & matching hairbows.
These pom pom tutus are Christmas presents for Samster's little Florida friends, Serena & Ava, who we'll be visiting next week. The instructions are just like the ones for the Ice Princess TuTu but with pompoms instead of snowflakes. I saw these at a boutique for $40 the other day & about died. Then I ran across this website selling them for $60! SERIOUSLY?!?I followed Martha's measurements for Ava's (she's 2) but for Serena's (3 mths) I cut off 4" from the length & shortened the smaller ribbon length to her waistsize plus a few inches for room to grow.
These are for Sam's friends Nicole & Erin. I used the "ten minute tutu" instructions & simply shortened the tulle length for the infant one.Tutus look ADORABLE stuffed in a giftbag, like a bag of pink frilly goodness!
I think they liked them...
Oh! I almost forgot my favorite part! Use your leftover strips for matching hairbows...here's how...Cut a small strip of tulle to around 3" wide by 6" long & tie it into a bow.
Next take a piece of felt & hot glue it to a hairclip.
Trim the felt to the size of the clip & glue bow ontop. That's it!
Oh my goodness!! These are so adorable!! I am so... going to make my 3 girls one! Thank you for the fantastic idea :) Making a tutu, for each holiday... Would be another cool idea too!

ReplyDeleteThey say during times of stress, a significant number more of girls than boys are born, and they say it's been going on lately. I'm friends with a lot (maybe a dozen?) women who had girls this last year and only 2 that had/are having boys. In the tropics (where most third world countries are and I guess it's stressed all the time), they always have more girls born than boys. From an evolutionary perspective, it makes sense. Of course, they could be wrong. I don't really know.

ReplyDeletei'm inspired for sure! i finally got my younger child off to school last year and made good on the cliche promise of getting things done around the house - i went from being totally un-handy to a totaly handy-woman :) i started by learning to caulk & paint, and moved on to replacing electrical fixtures, putting in dimmers all over the house, and replacing all of our sink faucets & drains! with absolutely no previous knowledge or how-to or tools or anything! before i get some more power tools i've decided to get a sewing machine and maybe try some of your great projects! even though my kids are school aged now, i have friends having babies, and could even try to adapt some of these projects for bigger kids too. i just completed my first hem! THANK YOU NATASHA for taking the time to share your awesome ideas, and 'can do' attitude! now, don't tell me you come from a family of seamstresses!!! :) i'll be devastated! just kidding! congratulations on sam's birthday! it's been great getting to know you through being a loyal kane show listener and blog follower!
