DIY Glitter Toes

Thanks so much to Jordan for sending me this idea! I had never heard of "Glitter Toes" before but I guess it's a new pedicure craze where they put this super glittery gel on your toes & it lasts for months or something crazy like that. I can't say these will last for months (unless you like that trailor park half chipped look) but they should make it until your New Year's Eve celebration. I mean, can you think of a better opportunity to sparkle a little extra?! That's why I figured this would make a perfect project #6 in the '30 for $30' glitter series.
You'll notice I used my sisters as models, this is because I have crazy long monkey toes & refuse to document them on film.

You'll need: base coat (optional but I think it makes polish last longer), polish in similiar shade to your glitter color, clear top coat, MS glitterStart of by painting your toes with a base coat. Next working with one foot over a paper plate to catch excess put one coat of polish on one foot. Sprinkle liberally with glitter. Allow to dry well & then repeat with other foot. Give toes 2 good coats of clear top coat allowing plenty of drying time between coats. I found the easiest way to get off the extra glitter was to let their toes dry completely (we baked cookies in the meantime) & then rinse off the extra in the bathtub. You could also use something like a q-tip or baby wipe.

I would love to see pics of your pretty sparkly toes in your beautiful new year's shoes so send 'em if you do this!

  4. Don't you love this idea??? We did this all summer long with my Mom's pack of MS glitter, changing up our shades whenever we wanted! Super fun, and so much cheaper than getting them done professionally!

  9. I enjoy reading your blog and seeing the creative ideas you come up with, but I want to let you know, in the kindest way possible, that I find your use of the term "trailor park style" a bit off-putting. You've used this phrase twice recently, and both times in a less than flattering comparison. As a person who lives in a manufactured home (if not a mobile home park) I can't help but be offended to think of someone typecasting me in a "chipped nail polish, baby in a diaper and shoes but no pants" kind of role simply because of the kind of home I live in. You seem like a nice person and I really don't believe you meant any offense, just as I mean no offense by this comment.

  11. um...........im sure that the way you did this is decent.....but you really cant compare these with rockstar toes you would recieve from a licensed nail artist. if you were to get the actual rockstar work, they would look infinitly better than this, they would stay shiny until removal and would not chip or wear off.

  12. I tried this with my niece and you're right, it chipped off right away with topcoat. I've heard that the gel glitter toes last a long time. My topcoat glitter toes didn't make it 24 hours but it was a lot of fun once they started peeling!

  13. I tried this with my 2 yr old and my sister. Of course it wears away faster on my two yr old, but looks great 4 days later on my sis. I've had the glitter/rockstar toes done by a pro nail artist twice, and yes, they are the best, but when you DIY and have the supplies at home you can touch them up whenever. And you don't have to worry about how you're going to get the pro stuff off! I have horrible ridges in my toenails were they've had to file the stuff off. I don't want to do that to my 2 yr old, no matter how much better the "pro" stuff is. Or wait for it to grow out. Plus with all the compliments received by my sis, no one can tell they're not "pro" glitter toes. Plus while the pro stuff grew out, my big toe would be the only thing still left, and the others would be worn off because they grow faster, forcing me to get my nails expensively done more often!

  14. I was shocked when I read the 'trailer trash comment'...really? I don't know what to say, you really shouldn't say things like that.
