Apple & Brown Rice Turkey Burgers

(sorry, that's a crappy picture)
We have a restaurant that makes these and I just love them, the apple keeps the turkey juicy while the brown rice (which your family won't even know is there unless you tell them) helps to fill you up and add some healthy grains to the plate.

Here's my knock-off recipe:

Samster Mommy's Apple & Brown Rice Turkey Burgers

1 & 3/4 lbs ground turkey (dark meat)
1 granny smith apple (peeled & chopped)
1 package of instant brown rice-cooked (I use this- Annie Chun's Sprouted Brown Rice)
1 tbs worstershire
s & p
cheese of your choice

In a large bowl mix all ingredients, form into patties, cook for around 4 min each side or until browned & slightly firm to touch. (that's how I always tell if my meat is cooked, by how firm it feels) If you want to make it a cheeseburger add it at the end.

These are perfect served with either mixed veggies or sweet potato fries, I use a bag of the frozen ones and then season them with s & p, brown sugar, dash of cinnamon & chili powder.

Enjoy!

  1. Great recipe! I can't wait to try it this weekend. Sweet potato fries will go perfectly with the turkey burger.

  3. Hey Sarah,
Annie Chun's rice apparently comes in 3oz packets, if that helps any. 8oz is a cup isn't it? Which cooked is probably what the individual packets would come up to?

    ...

Upon further investigation... 3oz of dry rice is about 6 tbs.

    Hope that helps!
